Ocho y Medio Audiovisual is an independent, women-led production company based in Costa Rica, working across cinema and audiovisual media with collaborators throughout Central America and the Caribbean, including the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Panama, El Salvador, the United States, , Chile, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland and Slovenia.
Founded in 2017, the company develops and produces auteur-driven films and audiovisual projects with a strong commitment to creative independence, regional storytelling and distinctive voices. Ocho y Medio works closely with directors, producers, cinematographers, sound professionals and visual artists, supporting projects from early development through production and post-production.
Alongside its own film projects, Ocho y Medio provides production services for international filmmakers, production companies and creative teams working in Costa Rica, including local production, fixer services, crew coordination, location scouting and management, casting, equipment and technical support, production logistics, on-set coordination and post-production services. The company works as a local production partner, tailoring its support to the specific needs and scale of each project.
Ocho y Medio is committed to fostering collaborative and inclusive working environments. The company is led and largely operated by women, and actively seeks to build women-led teams and collaborate with women filmmakers, LGBTQ+ creators and other historically underrepresented voices in the audiovisual industry. We believe that greater diversity behind the camera creates richer and more complex perspectives on screen, and we strive to create working environments where different experiences, identities and ways of seeing can shape the filmmaking process.
